Our Scientific Advisory Council was formed in 2023 to support the scientific endeavours carried out by the Kerry Biosphere team. The Scientifc Advisory Council comprises representatives from Kerry County Council, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Munster Technological University, Tralee, South Kerry Development Partnership, and an external expert.

The function of the Council is to identifiy gaps in scientific knowledge in our Biosphere and to formulate actions to improve our understanding of these gaps. The Council works in cognizance with the Periodic Review prepared for the Biosphere in 2017. Scientific research and learnings are outlined in the Periodic Review and thie research is at the forefront of the Council's priorities. Comprising a collaborative body of experts, the Council provides evidence-based guidance for the Kerry UNESCO Biosphere. Our Council draws from disciplines such as environmental science, ecology, biology, and sustainability. The Council evaluates existing data and determines where knowledge can be improved and scientific research should be carried out.

Currently, we are in the process of preparing a large-scale mapping project to identify habitat types and condition in our Biosphere.
