Our Creative Ireland funded book 'Our Wild Woodlands' is well underway. Our Biosphere Officer, Brendan Kirwan has written a short story that describes 24 hours in a native oak woodland. The story focusses on the flora and fauna that inhabit the woodland and the interactions with eachother and with humans. The story aims to highlight the importance of our woodlands and the fauna activities that occur in secret in the woodland.
Brendan has also written a poem about our woodlands to further highlight the flora and fauna in the woodlands. The book will feature more short stories and poems from children and senior citizens that live in the Kerry Biosphere. We will also feature creative and original illustrations of the various trees, shrubs, and animals that live in the woodlands and are dependant on the woodland structure for their survival. We also explore the importance wildlife corridors such as treelines and hedgerows, rivers and streams. Our project is supported by Kerry County Arts through Creative Ireland.
