The Kerry Biosphere are thrilled to have recieved funding from Creative Ireland and Kerry County Council to progress with our 'People of the Kerry Biosphere' initiative. The project aims to highlight the diversity of life in the reserve, and to showcase the creativity of the people that live, work, and enjoy the Biosphere.
The 'People of the Kerry Biosphere' project encourages people to submit a short story about what the biosphere means to them. The short story, maximum 500 words, should reflect the feelings that the biosphere generates in its visitors, from childhood memories of visiting the region, hill walking, visiting Killarney National Park, or the many amenities in the greater biosphere area. Entrants are encouraged to embrace their creativity and enhance their story with illustrations. Entrants are invited to prepare a drawing or painting that encapsulates the meaning of their short story (A4 size paper).
The Biosphere will team up with local artist Katie O'Donogue who will provide workshops for entrants. The workshops will be aimed at aiding participants in illustrating their image. The opening date for entrants is June 2023 and the closing date is September 14th 2023. The entries will be assessed in September and the top 50 entries will be put on display during September and October 2023. The dates and venue of the workshops will be confirmed in the coming weeks, as will the location of the display of the top 50 entries.
