With this Mediterranean like weather, it is a great chance to observe our varied invertebrates. A personal favourite of mine are Dragonflies. Dragonflies are associated with wetland habitats such as bogs, ponds, and lakes. We do not have any wetlands in our garden, however we get commuting Dragonflies resting on our patio and stone walls.

There are wetland habitats including wet heath, blanket bog, and lakes not too far from our house and the Dragonflies are a common sight at this habitats. The Four Spotted Chaser is probably the most common Dragonfly in our area. These little guys are brazen enough and will land on you if you are standing idle (see attached photo). Our rarest Dragonfly, the Golden Ringed Dragonfly is nothing short of enormous! Whilst not recored in Kerry, it is still exciting to keep an eye out for these gargantuans. I recorded one in the sunny South-east many years ago, a sight I will never forget!
